In Voodoo there is one God called Bondye and 2 primary sorts of voodoo, Rada and Petro.

Also, other than Bondye there are three categories of spiritual beings; Lva, The Twins and The dead.

Rada is the main force since it is the voodoo of the peaceful and happy Lwa. Petro is a black magic voodoo and the voodoo of angry, mean and nasty Lwa. Dangerous things happen with Petro, including death curses, the making of zombie and wild sexual orgies. Petro only accounts for a small portion of voodoo, but it does exist.

lwa – spirits of family members and all aspects of daily life. When they take over a body they can cause good and bad things to happen to people.

The twins – they tend to help us with the better side of life when they are honored in a service.

The dead – souls of our family members who have died, but have not been reclaimed by the family. Ignored family dead are dangerous, honored and cared for are helpful.

These are the various spirits of lwa that I call on during a ceremony:

• Legha – origin of life and source of regeneration

• Kalfu – origin of darkness and can be a dangerous lwa

• Papa  ghede – lwa of death and resurrection – lord of eroticism

• Dumballah – a good snake – source of peace and tranquility

• Agwe – sovereign of the seas

• Ogoun – the warrior – violent

• Erzulie – spirit of goodness, of love and beauty.  when she takes over a body, it is one of cleansing – she can read future in dreams
